Congolese singer Fally Ipupa gave two sold-out concerts at London’s O2 Arena on 24 and 25 October, performing to nearly 40,000 people in total, Kivumorningpost reports. The shows celebrated 20 years of his solo career. The venue can accommodate around 20,000 people per night, depending on its configuration.
Fally Ipupa combined Congolese rumba and ndombolo in a show spanning several stages of his career. Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage, Cameroonian rapper Stanley Enow and Congolese musician Awilo Longomba joined him on stage.
The singer greeted his fans, known as the “Warriors”, who had come from Kinshasa, Europe, Canada and the United States, among other places. The two evenings also paid tribute to producer Johny Moko, who had recently died and was due to take part in producing the concerts. Fally Ipupa said that French-speaking African artists can fill large venues abroad.
The two concerts extend Fally Ipupa’s run of performances in the UK, following his sold-out show at the OVO Arena Wembley in December 2023.
