Uganda has banned non-essential travel to and from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where a nurse was killed during an Ebola response mission. Ugandan citizens returning from the DRC will have to undergo a 21-day quarantine, Tuko reports.
The attack also seriously injured a health worker. According to Radio Okapi, the attackers, young people from the area, accused health workers of contaminating water sources and deliberately spreading the virus. World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus condemned the attack and called for health workers to be able to work safely.
The measure comes as the DRC had recorded 9,600 cases and 4,600 deaths as of 18 October, according to the figures already published on 22 October. Uganda had already blocked the transit of Congolese travellers as part of its outbreak-related checks.
