João Domingos, outgoing head of CVTelecom, says the Cape Verdean operator’s turnover has risen from around 4.5 million to nearly 7 million contos since 2020, an increase of more than 50%. He also says the company invested around 12 million contos in infrastructure during his tenure, according to Expresso das Ilhas.

CVTelecom, Cape Verde’s historic telecommunications operator, is expected to hand over to its next management a turnover close to 7 million contos, up from 4.5 million in 2020. This represents growth of more than 50% in six years, according to João Domingos, outgoing chair of the board and chief executive, in an interview with Expresso das Ilhas.

The company made around 12 million contos in investments during this period, mainly in network infrastructure and connecting the country to the rest of the world. João Domingos cited the EllaLink submarine cable, which strengthened Cape Verde’s access to international digital services and enables applications such as 3D imaging and 5G trials.

CVTelecom has also invested in high-speed internet for customers and inter-island submarine cables. According to its outgoing chief executive, EllaLink replaced reliance on the older WACS cable alone and opens up prospects in gaming and other digital industries.
