FC Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0 on Tuesday at Camp Nou, during the fourth matchday of the Champions League league phase. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Raphinha scored twice in the second half, Punch reports.
The victory keeps the Spanish club, five-time winners of the competition, in contention for a place in the league phase’s top eight. Aston Villa, who had won their first three matches, suffered their first European defeat of the season.
The match began without the Champions League anthem, in tribute to Jesús De Miguel, the Tenerife striker who died on Tuesday after a collision the previous day during a Spanish second-division match. FC Barcelona bounced back after losing to defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in their previous European outing.
