The Central African army says it carried out air strikes and ground operations against armed groups in Vakaga prefecture, near Chad and Sudan. The Defence Ministry says the attackers were neutralised and operations are continuing with Russian military specialists, according to Ndjoni Sango.

The Central African army carried out air strikes and ground operations on Saturday against armed groups in Vakaga prefecture, in the north-east of the Central African Republic, to prevent an attack it deemed imminent. The operation took place near the borders with Chad and Sudan, according to a statement from the Central African Defence Ministry reported by the Ndjoni Sango media outlet.

Central African intelligence services had identified preparations for an offensive in the tri-border area. The authorities attributed the threat to “foreign mercenaries”, without specifying their nationality or affiliation, according to the Defence Ministry.
