The BEAC will withdraw old-series coins, issued between 1958 and 1985, from legal tender in the six CEMAC countries from 1 November 2026. Holders will be able to exchange them until 31 October 2027, according to the communiqué presented by its national director in Chad.

The BEAC will give holders until 31 October 2027 to exchange coins from the old series, issued between 1958 and 1985, for coins from the 2006 or 2024 series. The timetable was presented on Wednesday 28 October in N’Djamena by Taoukreo Hemwue Temwa, the BEAC’s national director in Chad, according to Alwihda Info.

From 1 November 2026 to 31 July 2027, exchanges will be possible at banks, microfinance institutions and the BEAC. From 1 August to 31 October 2027, they will be restricted to central bank counters. After the latter date, the old coins will no longer be exchangeable. Coins from the 2006 and 2024 series will remain accepted in the six CEMAC countries, according to the communiqué signed by Yvon Sana Bangui, governor of the BEAC.

The measure follows a resolution by the UMAC Ministerial Committee, adopted on 7 October 2026 in N’Djamena. It sets out the timetable for implementing the decision on the withdrawal of old coins in the Central African monetary zone, announced previously.
