Around 40 Chadian agricultural technicians are taking part in training in N’Djamena from 28 to 30 October 2026 on detecting crop pests with digital tools. The Ministry of Agricultural Production and Industrialisation is organising the workshop with support from the FAO and the Phytosanitary Programme for Africa to improve surveillance and limit agricultural losses, Le Pays reports.
Around 40 technicians from Chad’s various production basins are taking part in training in N’Djamena from 28 to 30 October 2026 on the digital detection of plant pests. Organised by the Ministry of Agricultural Production and Industrialisation with support from the FAO and the Phytosanitary Programme for Africa, the workshop aims to strengthen plant health surveillance, according to Le Pays.
Participants are learning how to improve the collection and management of pest data, quickly report outbreaks and protect agricultural production. The mobile application presented is intended to improve the reliability of information gathered, early warning and coordination among officers responsible for phytosanitary risk management.
The FAO representative in Chad, Mark Mankoussou, stressed that crop pests and diseases can reduce producers’ incomes, undermine rural livelihoods and threaten food security. He urged the technicians to make the digital tool presented during the training their own.
