Angolan bank Banco Sol and international consultancy Alvarez & Marsal brought together African financial leaders and specialists in Luanda on Tuesday 3 November to discuss the management of non-performing loans. Held on the sidelines of the Africa Financial Summit 2026, the meeting aimed to strengthen bank balance sheets and unlock lending capacity, according to Mercado.
Speakers said that non-performing loans weigh on banks’ liquidity and profitability while limiting their ability to finance households, businesses and investments. The panel included Osvaldo Lemos Macaia, Banco Sol’s chief executive; António Ramalho, senior adviser at Alvarez & Marsal; Admassu Tadesse, group president and chief executive of the Trade and Development Bank; and Avelino Kiampuku, executive director of Recredit. The session was moderated by José Barata, chairman of Deloitte Angola, Mercado reports.
