A bomb attack targeting the area around a military base killed four people, including a two-month-old baby, in Planadas, in Colombia’s Tolima department. The truck bomb also damaged a hospital and homes, while many wounded people were evacuated, according to governor Adriana Magali Matiz.
Four people, including a two-month-old baby, were killed on Sunday evening when a truck loaded with explosive devices blew up near a military base in Planadas, in Colombia’s Tolima department. The attack also damaged part of a hospital and several homes, according to Tolima governor Adriana Magali Matiz.
Many wounded people were taken to a school to receive treatment, Planadas mayor Juan Camilo Hueje told a local radio station. The authorities have received no claim of responsibility, while residents reported drones over the town centre, according to Mr Hueje.
The attack comes amid violence linked to the struggle between guerrillas and cartels for control of drug-trafficking routes in Colombia, the world’s leading cocaine producer. On 1 September, a car bomb killed one person and injured 11, while three soldiers were later killed and four others wounded by explosive devices attributed to a dissident group from the former Farc.
The attack is part of a recent series of violence in Latin America, such as the Venezuelan army bombing an ELN camp.
