Five civilians were killed and four others injured in a cattle raid by armed men in Otallo, Pochalla County, South Sudan. The attack, which began on Friday afternoon and continued on Saturday morning, targeted herders near the palace of King Akway Agada Akway Cham, according to local officials and residents cited by Radio Tamazuj.

Lieutenant Colonel Amat Ochan, the county police inspector, accused men from the neighbouring Murle community. He said the five victims were Ojulu Olok Opiew, Didimo Ochalla Didimo, Odhiang Ochalla, Obang Owar and Omot Ochalla Didimo, three of whom belonged to the same family.

The four injured were initially treated at Pochalla health centre before being evacuated to Ethiopia. Two are in critical condition, according to Othow Okoti, a former local official and activist. All the stolen cattle were recovered, and a phone believed to belong to one of the attackers was handed to investigators, who are to examine the names stored on the device.

The raid comes two days after attacks that left two people dead, six injured and 46 cattle stolen in Duk, amid recurrent intercommunal violence in South Sudan.
