The Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) has invested more than 8 billion Tanzanian shillings in modernising the JKCI-ALMC hospital in Selian, Arusha, ahead of AFCON 2027 and to improve healthcare in the north of the country, its director-general, Peter Richard Kisenge, said, according to HabariLeo. The spending covers infrastructure renovation, the purchase of medical equipment and the strengthening of orthopaedic services.
The project, conducted with Global Medicare, notably includes the installation of MRI and scanner equipment and a cardiac catheterisation laboratory. Some equipment is being delivered or installed, Kisenge said. The hospital also plans to automate several stages of the patient journey, from registration to medical follow-up, and use artificial intelligence tools to assist doctors.
VIP rooms equipped to be converted into intensive care units depending on patients’ conditions have also been prepared. JKCI also plans to make health-screening devices available at places frequented by visitors during AFCON 2027.
