The Bagamoyo International Festival of Arts and Culture celebrated its 44th edition, and the district commissioner praised the work of the Bagamoyo Institute of Arts and Culture in keeping the event going. He urged partners to strengthen their financial and organisational support to preserve and develop arts and culture in Tanzania, Jamhuri Media reports.

The 44th edition of the Bagamoyo International Festival of Arts and Culture ended in Tanzania with a call for stronger cooperation among stakeholders to ensure the event’s continuation and support the arts sector. The Bagamoyo district commissioner made the appeal at the closing ceremony, held at the Bagamoyo Institute of Arts and Culture, according to Jamhuri Media.

The official praised the work of the institute, its management, staff, students and festival committees, which have enabled the event to take place for 44 consecutive years. He asked organisers to open up festival funding and management further to partners, and urged residents of Bagamoyo and Tanzanians to attend future editions.

Artists have sometimes funded their own participation, he noted. The festival has also received support from companies, media outlets, public institutions and cultural organisations, including Azam Media, ITV, Radio One, the Tanzania Copyright Office and the Tanzania Forest Services Agency.
