A Mauritian School Certificate candidate is suspected of using smart glasses during an examination, and the case has been referred to Cambridge International Examinations. The candidate could receive a “No Result” grade in the subject concerned, according to the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate, which reiterates that electronic devices are banned in examination rooms.

A candidate sitting the School Certificate (SC), Mauritius’s secondary school examination, is suspected of using smart glasses to cheat. The case has been referred to Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) by the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES), and the candidate could receive a “No Result” grade in the subject concerned, according to the MES.

Since the June 2026 examination session, candidates have been informed that phones, connected devices and watches are prohibited in examination rooms. If cheating is suspected, the invigilator must write a report and submit it to the MES, which investigates in line with Cambridge requirements. The CIE may request an analysis of the scripts and gather testimonies before deciding on penalties, according to the MES Principal Examination Officer, Ashok Goonjur.

The CIE recorded 66 cases of cheating in the SC and Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations in 2025. These included eight cases involving phones at O Level, nine at A Level, and two cases of possession of unauthorised materials at each of those levels.
