Cambridge International Education will retain Assessed Grades for Mauritian School Certificate and Higher School Certificate candidates who missed exams cancelled on 13 October. The system will calculate grades from results in other exams, according to the minutes of the Council of Ministers meeting on 23 October.

Cambridge International Education is maintaining the use of Assessed Grades for Mauritian School Certificate and Higher School Certificate candidates who missed exams cancelled on 13 October. The decision is set out in the minutes of the Council of Ministers meeting on 23 October, reports Defimedia.

Grades for missed exams will be determined from candidates’ results in the other exams they actually sat. Cambridge says this method is intended to award them an equivalent grade without systematically advantaging or penalising them. The organisation notes that individual exams are not generally rescheduled, in order to protect the confidentiality and security of exam papers.

Mauritius’s Ministry of Education had asked for possible solutions to be considered, including replacement papers, after exams were cancelled because of unrest in the country. It now intends to ask Cambridge to revise the collaboration agreement to include provisions for such circumstances.

The decision follows discussions between Mauritius and Cambridge on options for the cancelled exams, reported on 21 October in an earlier update on the solutions under consideration.
