Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye received a delegation from CONFEMEN, the organisation bringing together education ministers from French-speaking countries and governments, on Friday 23 October 2026. The delegation asked him to advocate for the quality of learning among his African counterparts, according to the Senegalese presidency as cited by Seneweb. The meeting focused on the results of PASEC, CONFEMEN's programme for assessing education systems.
The delegation sought Bassirou Diomaye Faye's support in taking this advocacy to ECOWAS, the West African regional organisation, and the African Union. The Senegalese presidency recalled that Vision Senegal 2050, the country's long-term development framework, makes quality education a condition of national sovereignty and competitiveness.
PASEC enables states to measure pupils' learning outcomes and guide their education policies. The results presented to the head of state follow the publication on Senegal leading PASEC 2024 in mathematics.
