Two people were killed, six injured and 46 cattle stolen in several attacks in Duk County, in South Sudan’s Jonglei State, according to acting commissioner Peter Chol Galuak. The incidents took place on Wednesday in the Ageer and Duk Padiet areas, and the attackers are believed to have come from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, Radio Tamazuj reports.

Two cattle herders were shot dead, six people were injured and 46 cattle were stolen in several attacks on Wednesday in Duk County, Jonglei State, South Sudan. The county’s acting commissioner, Peter Chol Galuak, reported the incidents to Radio Tamazuj.

According to Galuak, armed men attacked a cattle camp between Poktap and Patuetnoi, in the Ageer area, while a truck travelling from Pajut to Poktap was also targeted. The six injured included a woman. The attackers then stole 46 cows in the Duk Padiet area.

The commissioner suspects that the attackers and cattle thieves came from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area. He condemned the attacks and called on armed youths to exercise restraint, while urging the Greater Pibor authorities to intervene. Kenya Mach, an activist with the Jonglei State Women’s Association, also called for intervention by the authorities.

The attacks follow several deadly incidents reported in the country, including clashes in Bor on 28 October. Radio Tamazuj also reported on 22 October a call for an investigation into the deaths of two Ethiopian peacekeepers in Pajut.
