Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is putting his ministers and several senior officials through military training at Hurso. He presents the discipline as a way to strengthen leadership, cohesion and accountability in the service of national development, according to statements on social media.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has put ministers and other senior government officials through military training at the Hurso training centre, the BBC reports. Images published by the head of government show him taking part in exercises with ministers, deputy ministers and heads of public institutions.
Those present included the speaker of the House of Federation, Muferiat Kamil, Finance Minister Fitsum Assefa and Health Minister Mekdes Daba. Abiy Ahmed says the training is intended to strengthen discipline, patriotism, teamwork, accountability and leadership skills among leaders.
The initiative comes as Ethiopia faces fighting in Tigray, clashes in Amhara and insecurity in Oromia. It also comes amid heightened tensions with Eritrea, against a backdrop of fears that conflict between the two countries could resume, according to the BBC.
