Puntland President Saciid Cabdullaahi Deni rejects the national consultation proposed by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud from 14 to 18 November in Mogadishu. He says the initiative will produce no results and calls for a different political dialogue, while asking the president to leave office, according to Caasimada.

Saciid Cabdullaahi Deni, president of the federal state of Puntland, rejects the national dialogue convened by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu from 14 to 18 November 2026. He described the initiative as a waste of time and said it would produce no results, in an interview with Puntland TV reported by Caasimada Online.

The dialogue is expected to bring together the Nabad iyo Nolol party, the Somali Future Council, the National Unity Platform and civil society organisations. Saciid Deni called on Somalis instead to take part in genuine consultations on the political situation and asked Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to resign.

The president of Puntland is proposing the creation of an interim council to lead the country until the elections. His rejection comes as the Somali Future Council has also challenged the national dialogue proposed by the president, amid disagreement between Mogadishu, Puntland and the opposition over the electoral process.
