The World Food Programme (WFP) handed over 74 pieces of computer equipment to Burundi’s National Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (ONPRA) and the Permanent Executive Secretariat of the National Social Protection Commission (SEP/CNPS). The consignment included 27 computers and 27 printer-scanners for education services in 27 communes, as well as 14 computers and six printer-scanners for social protection, according to a WFP statement published on Friday 30 October 2026.
The equipment is intended to support the management of school canteens, the monitoring of purchases and deliveries, and the transmission of information between schools, communes and administrative services. It accompanies the gradual decentralisation of school meal organisation, under the direction of Burundi’s Ministry of National Education and Scientific Research.
For the 2026-2027 school year, the national endogenous school feeding programme is targeting 846,422 children in 982 schools. The schools are to source supplies from agricultural producers’ cooperatives and local processing units, the WFP said.
