New British ambassador David Ian Hall announces the forthcoming opening of a building specifically designed to house the UK embassy in Djibouti. The presence is intended to support stronger bilateral relations, particularly in the cultural and university sectors, according to La Nation.
The United Kingdom will open its first building in Djibouti specifically designed to house an embassy, the country’s ambassador, Dr David Ian Hall, announced during a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed on Thursday, according to the Djiboutian daily La Nation.
The British diplomat, who has been in post for a month, presented the facility as a concrete expression of London’s desire to strengthen its diplomatic presence in Djibouti over the long term. The Prime Minister, for his part, called for broader areas of cooperation, particularly in the cultural and linguistic fields. The ambassador mentioned a possible partnership with the University of Djibouti to strengthen English-language learning for Djiboutian students.
The announcement comes amid a series of bilateral rapprochements announced in Djibouti in recent weeks, following talks with Turkey on energy investments on 20 October and envisaged energy and climate cooperation with Tanzania on 29 October.
