Félix Tshisekedi, president of the DRC, identifies shifting slash-and-burn farming as one of the main causes of deforestation and proposes agricultural settlement, agroforestry and reforestation. He also advocates access to electricity as an alternative to wood fuel, at the Brazzaville mini-summit, according to Le Potentiel.

President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Félix Tshisekedi proposed settling farming, promoting sustainable agroforestry, developing access to electricity as an alternative to wood fuel and intensifying reforestation to combat deforestation. He was speaking at a press conference in Kintélé, according to Le Potentiel.

The ceremony held in Maloukou, 45 kilometres from central Brazzaville, was marked by a symbolic tree-planting. Congolese President Denis Sassou Nguesso said Brazzaville should be the starting point for an international initiative to protect forests, according to Le Potentiel.
