Sébastien Desabre is among 10 coaches nominated for the CAF Awards’ best coach of the year prize. The DR Congo manager is recognised for the Leopards’ run, including reaching the World Cup round of 16, according to Le Potentiel.
Sébastien Desabre, manager of the Democratic Republic of the Congo national team, is among 10 African coaches shortlisted for an award, Le Potentiel reports.
The list also includes Miguel Cardoso, who won the Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns, and Lamine Ndiaye, who won the Confederation Cup with USM Alger. Pedro Brito, known as ‘Bubista’, is included after Cape Verde’s run at the World Cup, as is Mohamed Ouahbi, who led Morocco to the World Cup quarter-finals.
Walid Regragui, a finalist in the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco, and Pape Thiaw, who won the competition with Senegal on the pitch, are also in contention. Senegal’s title is the subject of a Moroccan appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Desabre’s nomination is linked in particular to the Leopards’ run to the World Cup round of 16. The Congolese manager is competing against coaches who have won continental titles or achieved notable international results.
The selection follows the nomination of Adji Ndiaye among the 10 goalkeepers in contention at the CAF Awards, announced on 3 November in the list of nominated goalkeepers. On 4 November, Mohamed Ouahbi was also mentioned in connection with the Moroccan team, as he prepared for two matches against Niger in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
