The government of the DR Congo has handed $35 million to ONATRA to begin settling unpaid social benefits owed to 4,212 retirees. The arrears cover the 2013–2026 period and the payment is a first step, according to the Congolese government.

The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo handed a $35 million cheque to the National Transport Office (ONATRA) on Monday 2 November 2026. The funds are intended to begin clearing unpaid social benefits owed to 4,212 retired employees of the state-owned company for the 2013–2026 period, according to Desk Eco.

The handover took place at the Ministry of Transport in the presence of, among others, Deputy Prime Ministers Jean-Pierre Bemba and Adolphe Muzito, Minister of the Portfolio Julie Shiku and Deputy Finance Minister Gracia Yamba Kazadi. Representatives of the retirees, ONATRA’s management committee and the monitoring committee of the ONATRA Social Fund also took part in the ceremony. The funds constitute a first step towards settling the company’s social obligations to its former employees, according to Desk Eco.
