President Félix Tshisekedi says the DRC’s removal from the FATF grey list should boost confidence among banks and investors. He expects the change to facilitate international transactions, increase financing for businesses and create job-generating investment, according to a presidential message posted on X.

The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, believes that the country’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, an international body combating money laundering and terrorist financing, should strengthen the DRC’s financial credibility. In a message posted on the presidency’s X account, he said the decision should increase the confidence of banks, investors and economic partners.

Félix Tshisekedi expects this confidence to gradually facilitate financial transactions with foreign countries, improve financing prospects for Congolese companies and increase investment capable of creating jobs. He also believes that strengthening mechanisms against illicit financial flows should preserve resources intended for national development.

The head of state now calls for this progress to be turned into opportunities for entrepreneurs, jobs for young people and investment in the provinces. He congratulated the government, particularly Finance Minister Doudou Fwamba, as well as the institutions involved in the process, and urged them to continue reforms on financial transparency.

The statement comes after the DRC’s removal from the FATF grey list after 23 reforms, announced on 30 October, followed by the removal of Ivory Coast and the DRC from the grey list, reported on 31 October.
