Tshopo Governor Paulin Lendongolia Lebabonga has pledged to strengthen coordination of the response to the 17th Ebola epidemic. The commitment follows an intra-action review held from 28 to 31 October in Kisangani, whose recommendations are to guide the next measures, Kis24info reports.

Tshopo Governor Paulin Lendongolia Lebabonga has pledged to strengthen coordination of the response to the 17th Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He made the commitment on Saturday, 31 October, in Kisangani, at the close of the intra-action review devoted to the epidemic, according to Kis24info.

Held from 28 to 31 October, the review brought together health officials, experts, provincial representatives and technical and financial partners. Participants assessed progress in the response, identified shortcomings and made recommendations to improve interventions in affected areas, Kis24info reports.

Paulin Lendongolia said the provincial authorities would monitor implementation of the recommendations and that he would personally oversee the follow-up. He also called for health workers to be protected and for misinformation to be countered, which he considers an obstacle to Ebola control operations, according to the Congolese media outlet.

The review follows an assessment by Congolese experts in Kisangani, published on 1 November. It also comes after African ministers strengthened border surveillance, announced on 29 October.
