Spotify plans to launch a service in the first quarter of 2027 allowing paid subscribers to create song remixes using artificial intelligence. The Swedish company is considering an additional monthly fee of $4 to $5 and is negotiating licensing agreements with several record labels, according to the Financial Times, cited by Reuters.

Spotify plans to launch an artificial intelligence music remix service in the first quarter of 2027, reports the Financial Times, cited by Reuters. The Swedish company could unveil the offering around the Grammy Awards ceremony in February.

The service would allow paying subscribers to create transformed versions of songs, for example turning a folk track into dance music or having a song performed by another artist. Spotify is considering an additional monthly fee of $4 to $5 for access, according to the Financial Times.

Royalties generated by subscribers’ remixes would go to the original artists, and streams would count towards the charts for the original songs, according to the newspaper. Spotify has signed licensing agreements with Universal Music Group, Merlin, which represents independent labels, and French company Believe. Negotiations with Sony Music and Warner Music are still under way.

The project comes amid the growing use of artificial intelligence in digital content. On 30 October, the African Union also expressed its intention to strengthen African AI and digital sovereignty, in its initiative on AI and digital sovereignty.
