China wants to involve professionals from 17 countries in developing short videos and micro-series, presented as new drivers of the audiovisual industry. Zhou Jihong, director-general of the Department of International Cooperation at the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), said on Thursday that digital technologies and artificial intelligence were transforming the production and distribution of content, Lesotho Times reports.

Micro-series, whose episodes last less than 15 minutes, could be worth more than 100 billion yuan, or about 14 billion dollars, in 2027. Two training workshops for journalists from Belt and Road partner countries were opened on the occasion, with participants from Asia, Africa, Latin America and Oceania, according to Zhou Jihong.

The NRTA presentation said television covered 99.82% of China’s population and radio 99.74%. The country also has 207 million cable subscribers, 385 million internet-protocol television users and 340 million users of online streaming services, according to figures provided to participants.
