Somalia suspends all agreements with the United Arab Emirates

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud says Somalia is maintaining diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates but has suspended all agreements between the two countries, including those on security and the armed forces. In an interview with Al Jazeera, he also accused Abu Dhabi of treating Somaliland as a separate political entity and encouraging it to break away from Somalia.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced that the federal government had suspended all its agreements with the United Arab Emirates, while maintaining diplomatic relations between the two countries. He spoke in an interview with Al Jazeera, Caasimada Online reports.

The Somali and Emirati embassies remain open, the president said. He justified the suspension of the agreements by citing disagreements and tensions between Mogadishu and Abu Dhabi.
