Unai Simón and Cata Coll named best goalkeepers

Spaniards Unai Simón and Cata Coll won the 2026 Yashin Trophies for best male and female goalkeepers at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London. The Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper and her FC Barcelona counterpart secured a double win for Spain, Pmnewsnigeria reports.
Unai Simón, goalkeeper for Athletic Bilbao and the Spanish national team, and Cata Coll, first-choice goalkeeper for FC Barcelona, won the men’s and women’s goalkeeper awards at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, Pmnewsnigeria reports. Simón received the Yashin Trophy, while Coll was honoured in the women’s category.
After receiving his award, Simón thanked his parents, his brother and his partner for their support. Cata Coll praised the Spanish national team’s contribution to her development and stressed that individual awards are based on collective effort.
Simón had helped Spain win Euro 2024 and won the Zamora Trophy in La Liga in the 2023-2024 season, awarded to the goalkeeper who conceded the fewest goals. He finished second in the 2024 Yashin Trophy voting.
