Bukayo Saka, Arsenal and England forward, received the Socrates Award at the Ballon d’Or ceremony for his commitment to vulnerable communities. The award was presented to him by Nigerian singer Burna Boy, according to Leadership.
The player notably told the story of a 12-year-old Rwandan boy who received support from the BigShoe organisation after losing his sight. Saka dedicated the award to the children helped by these initiatives: “It is an honour to receive this award on behalf of all the children we have been able to help.”
The award recognises football figures who use their influence and resources to create a social and humanitarian impact. It was presented on 26 October, the day when no Nigerian was included among the finalists for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, according to Leadership.
