Trump hits back at Obama over White House jibe

US President Donald Trump hit back at Barack Obama after a jibe at the White House’s appearance, compared to a restaurant run by Saddam Hussein. Trump notably accused his predecessor of having been a bad president in remarks reported by Vanguard before an electoral rally.

Donald Trump called Barack Obama a “bad president” on Monday after the former Democratic president compared the White House’s décor to a Cheesecake Factory restaurant run by Saddam Hussein. Trump responded to journalists as he left for an electoral rally, according to AFP.

Barack Obama made the jibe on Saturday while campaigning in Ohio and Michigan for the Democrats ahead of the midterm elections. He was particularly criticising renovations wanted by Trump, including the construction of a vast ballroom and the addition of gold ornaments in the Oval Office.

Trump also reproached Obama for failing to notice the damaged masonry and dirty walls of the White House. The president made the remarks just days before a vote in which Republicans risk losing control of Congress, AFP reports.

The retort came after several interventions by Barack Obama against Donald Trump ahead of the midterm elections. The former president notably called on voters to punish him at the ballot box on 25 October and accused him of corruption on the same day (his corruption accusations against Trump).
