The Sahel Resilience Partnership (SRP) operates in 28 communes in Burkina Faso, covering 62 resilience sites in five regions: Yaadga, Koulsé, Oubri, Goulmou and Nakambé, Lefaso reports. The programme receives financial support from the German government and aims to strengthen vulnerable communities’ ability to cope with food insecurity, climate change, a lack of social services and local tensions.
The SRP brings together the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and GIZ, Germany’s international cooperation agency. UNICEF works in health, nutrition, water, sanitation, education and social protection, while WFP supports agricultural production, school canteens, nutrition and land restoration. GIZ supports conflict prevention, natural resource governance and community dialogue.
The programme targets women, children, young people, small-scale producers, displaced people and host communities in particular. It also plans to build the capacity of national, local and community organisations so that they can anticipate and respond to crises, according to Lefaso.
