Burkina Faso’s Council of Ministers approved the ratification of CFA-franc 67.2 billion in funding for the Economic Empowerment of Poor and Vulnerable Households for Resilience and Adaptive Social Protection Project (PARPS). The project is to support 120,000 households across the country for five years, according to the Council of Ministers’ report cited by the Burkina Information Agency (AIB).
The PARPS will group these households into community cooperatives focused on production and processing activities. It is expected to create 4,800 cooperatives and 1,200 local economic units, according to the government report.
The project also includes the construction of six warehouses, each with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes, two modern storage facilities and 20 warehouses able to store 1,000 tonnes each. Its implementation will initially target the regions of Koulsé, Yaadga, Nakambé, Nando, Bankui and Sourou, depending on the phased rollout of the Unified Social Register.
The funding, totalling $120 million, or CFA francs 67,222,473,360, is based on a credit agreement and a grant agreement signed on 14 July 2026 between Burkina Faso and the International Development Association (IDA). It also provides for the purchase of eight vehicles, 20 flatbed lorries, 20 tipper lorries and two tankers, according to AIB.
