The Burkinabe government has created the Société viticole du Burkina Faso, with initial capital of one billion CFA francs, to establish an industrial unit in Bobo-Dioulasso. The investment is estimated at CFA francs 9.8 billion, with a 45% public stake, according to minister Serge Gnaniodem Poda.
Burkina Faso’s Council of Ministers adopted a decree on Thursday 22 October 2026 creating the Société viticole du Burkina Faso (SOVIB), a mixed-economy company tasked with establishing an industrial unit in Bobo-Dioulasso. Its initial capital is one billion CFA francs, according to Serge Gnaniodem Poda, Minister of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts.
The Burkinabe state will hold 45% of the capital, compared with 10% for BRAFASO, the Société Nouvelle-Brasserie du Faso, and 45% for the national private sector. The investment required to build the unit is estimated at CFA francs 9.8 billion, a figure distinct from the initial capital, the minister said.
The future factory is intended to add value to local wine production and create several hundred jobs. BRAFASO, established by decree on 23 October 2024 to revive the former state brewery, includes the manufacture and sale of beverages, including wine, among its activities.
SOVIB’s creation comes after Burkinabe customs seized illicit goods valued at nearly CFA francs 10 billion, an announcement made on 21 October by Burkinabe Customs.
