Morocco will gradually increase the minimum direct social assistance payment from 500 to 1,000 dirhams by the end of the government’s term, with a 100-dirham rise planned for 2027. Economy Minister Fouzi Lekjaa also estimated the impact of the social priorities in the 2027 draft budget at 62 billion dirhams, according to Libe.
Morocco will increase the minimum amount of direct social assistance by 100 dirhams in 2027. It is due to rise gradually from 500 to 1,000 dirhams by the end of the government’s term, Economy, Finance and Public Sector Performance Minister Fouzi Lekjaa said on Friday, presenting the 2027 finance bill to Parliament.
The increase will require about 3 billion dirhams in 2027. Eligibility will be based mainly on households’ actual income, replacing the socio-economic index, according to Fouzi Lekjaa. The government’s social priorities as a whole represent an estimated 62 billion dirhams in spending, he added.
The budget bill also provides for the introduction of unemployment benefits and the extension of pension coverage to self-employed workers. The government also intends to control medical spending and strengthen the resources of compulsory health insurance schemes, while increasing funding for health, education and access to housing.
The announcement adds to social measures already outlined in the 2027 Moroccan social budget, which provides for 62 billion dirhams in spending. It follows the presentation on 23 October of the minimum pension of 1,700 dirhams in 2027.
