Nvidia is negotiating a guarantee on several billion dollars in financing for Nscale’s artificial intelligence data centre in West Virginia, intended for Anthropic. The arrangement would cover construction payments in the event of a default, as Nscale targets a valuation of up to $35 billion, according to The Information and Bloomberg.

Nvidia is in talks to guarantee several billion dollars in debt financing for Anthropic’s planned data centre in West Virginia, a project led by artificial intelligence cloud services provider Nscale, The Information reported, as cited by TechCrunch. Bloomberg later confirmed the reports.

Anthropic signed a $44.6 billion contract with Nscale for the campus’s first building, which is due to have a power capacity of 460 megawatts and use Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin chips. The two companies are also discussing a second building valued at about $45 billion, according to information reported by TechCrunch.

Under the proposed arrangement, Nvidia would cover Nscale’s construction payments in the event of a default, temporarily take over the site and help find a buyer or a new tenant. Nscale is seeking to go public at a valuation of up to $35 billion, although the company operated only about 25,000 advanced chips in August, compared with nearly 500,000 planned.

The chipmaker has already committed about $170 billion in investments and credit to artificial intelligence-focused cloud providers and major customers, according to The Information. It notably pledged $1 billion in convertible financing to Nscale in September, while shares in CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN each fell by more than 30% in October, according to CNBC.
