Namibian Anglican Bishop Patrick Djuulume called on young people to abandon behaviour that puts their lives at risk, citing reckless driving, gender-based violence and fights over trivial matters. He was speaking on Friday at a memorial ceremony for former first lady Penehupifo Pohamba in the village of Okanghudi, in the Ohangwena region, according to The Namibian.
Patrick Djuulume also criticised cohabitation, which he described as a relationship entered into without the authorisation of parents. He said some young people were ‘chasing death’ while it was moving away from them, referring to the behaviour and conflicts contributing to the loss of young lives.
The sermon was delivered during the tribute to Penehupifo Pohamba, Namibia’s former first lady who died on 18 October. The ceremony followed the announcement of her death.
