Remittances from Moroccans living abroad reached 122 billion dirhams in 2025, according to the Exchange Office. The question of mobilising their skills and networks was discussed on 29 October in Rabat at a meeting devoted to the Moroccan diaspora.

Younes Slaoui, speaking on behalf of HEM business school, said researchers, executives and entrepreneurs could share their knowledge, open markets and attract financing without necessarily returning permanently to Morocco. Steven Höfner, representing the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Foundation, called for stronger ties with the descendants of emigrants and for cooperation between Morocco, Germany and Africa.

Jamal Belahrach, president of the Moroccan Diaspora House, highlighted the diversity of expectations depending on backgrounds and generations. He called for more data on these communities and raised the possibility of creating a dedicated university chair. In his view, financial transfers are not enough to measure their contribution, and ties with younger generations cannot rest solely on family memories.
