The collapse of an extension under construction at Holy City Church in Entebbe may have trapped more than 100 worshippers; 22 people were rescued. Teams continued searching on Monday evening, while survivors were taken to hospital, according to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala.
Ugandan police said that the collapse on Monday evening of an extension under construction at Holy City Entebbe Church in Katabi, Wakiso district, had reached the fourth floor before it came down, according to Tuko. Uganda Police Force and Uganda People’s Defence Forces teams continued searching the rubble after 22 survivors were evacuated to hospitals in Entebbe and Kisubi.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the authorities were still trying to establish whether anyone remained trapped and whether the construction site had the required permits. The cause of the collapse was still under investigation, according to Tuko.
The collapse occurred at Holy City Entebbe Church, led by preacher Brother Ronnie Makabai, on the road linking Kawuku and Bwerenga. No deaths had been officially confirmed by Monday evening, while the condition of those rescued was still to be established.
The incident on 26 October followed the first reports about the collapse of a church construction site in Uganda, then the announcement on 27 October that 22 survivors had been rescued.
