Mauritanian government adopts presidential programme as political reference

Mauritanian Prime Minister El Moctar Ould Diay says the “My ambition for the homeland” programme is the political reference for government action. It sets out five priorities, including administrative and judicial reform, fighting corruption and developing infrastructure, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.

Mauritanian Prime Minister El Moctar Ould Diay made President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani’s “My ambition for the homeland” programme the sole political reference for government action, during the presentation of his general policy statement to Parliament on Saturday, the Mauritanian News Agency reports via Kassataya.

The government is committed to continuing implementation of the programme’s five priorities: consolidating the rule of law and good governance, building a strong and sustainable economy, developing human capital, strengthening national unity and social integration, and consolidating security with an active diplomacy. The announced measures include reforming the administration and justice system, fighting corruption, improving the investment climate, supporting the private sector and developing infrastructure, as well as education, training, employment, health, culture and sport.

On security, Mr Ould Diay reaffirmed the continuation of the integrated security strategy, the strengthening of border protection and the fight against irregular immigration. Foreign policy will remain based on good neighbourliness, dialogue and cooperation, with declared support for the Palestinian cause. The Prime Minister also set three priorities for the next phase, including supporting purchasing power and developing the interior of the country.

The statement comes one month after President Ghazouani appointed a 29-member government on 10 October, having reappointed El Moctar Ould Diay as Prime Minister on 9 October.
