Mauritania’s government has adopted a decree implementing the Public Procurement Code, creating procurement regulation and oversight authorities. The text also provides for regular certification of stakeholders and performance monitoring to strengthen transparency, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.

Mauritania’s Council of Ministers on Wednesday adopted a draft decree implementing the Public Procurement Code, stemming from the law of 10 June 2026. The text reforms the rules for awarding state contracts and provides for the creation of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority, the Public Procurement Oversight Commission and public procurement tender commissions, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.

The decree provides for regular certification of public procurement stakeholders and performance monitoring of the commissions. It also requires declarations of assets and interests to reduce the risk of corruption, as well as the gradual digitisation of procedures.

The new framework introduces a final contract settlement file to verify proper execution and compliance of services. It also aims to shorten deadlines throughout the contract cycle and promote national companies’ access to public contracts.

The Council of Ministers also examined a draft amending the decree implementing the special status of customs officials, adopted in 2025, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.
