The Libyan Cabinet Protection and Security Force is calling on citizens to verify the organisers of announced demonstrations and avoid mobilisations directed or funded from abroad. It recognises the right to protest peacefully against worsening living conditions, corruption and youth unemployment, reports Libya Herald.

The Cabinet Protection and Security Force, responsible for protecting Libyan government institutions, called on citizens on Thursday to remain vigilant over demonstrations announced on social media. It asked them to verify the identity and objectives of the organisers and to avoid suspicious activities that could be funded or directed by foreign parties, according to Libya Herald.

These gatherings are presented as spontaneous mobilisations against worsening living conditions, corruption and a lack of jobs for young people. The security force recognises citizens’ right to express their grievances peacefully, but warns that actions likely to cause chaos or threaten public and private property undermine social peace, according to Libya Herald.

It says it will continue to protect state institutions while respecting the right to demonstrate within the framework of the laws and regulations in force, according to Libya Herald.
