Air Algérie has restored direct flights between Algiers and Tripoli after more than 12 years of suspension. Two return services a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, are expected to facilitate travel and trade between Libya and Algeria, according to Libya’s Ministry of Transport.
Air Algérie resumed direct flights between Algiers and Tripoli on Wednesday 28 October, after more than 12 years of suspension, Libya Herald reports. The first flight landed at Mitiga International Airport, arriving from Algiers’ Houari Boumediene Airport.
The airline will operate two return services a week, on Wednesdays and Fridays, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Libya’s Ministry of Transport says the resumption will facilitate travel and air freight, as well as support economic and commercial exchanges between the two countries.
The flight was welcomed by Libyan Transport Minister Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, along with officials from the airport and civil aviation authorities of both countries. The resumption of the services comes a day after Libya lifted restrictions on its airspace, a measure related to Libyan aviation after 11 years (the lifting of airspace restrictions).
