Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke with his Saudi and Emirati counterparts to contain regional tensions. The three countries want to maintain their coordination and prioritise dialogue to prevent the crisis from worsening, according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nader Zaki.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty separately consulted his Saudi and Emirati counterparts on the risks of a new regional escalation. He spoke on Tuesday with Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nader Zaki.
With Riyadh and Abu Dhabi, Badr Abdelatty advocated coordination among the region’s states and the return of all parties to a political and diplomatic path. The discussions are to continue through the ministerial mechanism bringing together Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan, which is focused on de-escalating regional crises, Nader Zaki said.
The Egyptian minister and his interlocutors also stressed the use of dialogue and peaceful solutions in response to signs of a possible worsening of tensions, according to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. Egyptian diplomacy had already called for defusing regional tensions on 18 October.
The consultations came two days after Egypt’s Parliament authorised military support for Riyadh against the Houthis, announced on 26 October.
