Leeds to target those behind racist abuse of Jayden Bogle

Leeds United promises sanctions against those behind racist abuse directed at defender Jayden Bogle on social media after the 1-0 win over Tottenham on 7 November. The club says it will work with the Premier League and relevant authorities to identify those responsible and secure sanctions, according to Punch.

Leeds United wants to identify those behind racist messages targeting defender Jayden Bogle on social media after Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The English club said it would work with the Premier League and relevant authorities to find those responsible and seek the strongest possible sanctions, according to a statement cited by Punch.

Bogle, 26, was targeted after escaping a red card for a tackle on Tottenham forward Mathys Tel. Referee John Brooks upheld his decision after a lengthy review by the video assistant referee (VAR). Tottenham is meanwhile reportedly preparing an official complaint to Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the body responsible for English professional referees, to seek explanations for the decision.

Tottenham also condemned the messages targeting Bogle and pledged to support efforts to identify those responsible. The Leeds defender reportedly disabled comments on his Instagram account after the match, while both clubs called for action against online racist abuse.
