Coordinator Mohammed Baba says the 150 kVA unit is insufficient and that power cuts are disrupting water supplies in particular, according to Punch.
The coordinator of the Nigerian National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jigawa State, Mohammed Baba, renewed a request on Friday for a 250 kVA generator for the permanent General Yakubu Gowon orientation camp in Fanisau, in the city of Dutse, according to Punch. The camp does not receive electricity from the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, disrupting water pumping and daily activities in particular.
The 150 kVA generator already provided by Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi is not sufficient to power the entire camp, Mohammed Baba said during the welcoming ceremony for the 2,100 participants of the 2026 Batch C, Stream II intake. He said the governor had begun fulfilling his commitments in the week following his visit to the camp, with new fans installed in the multipurpose hall and two staff quarters renovated.
The 2,100 young people began a three-week orientation programme before their year of national service. Mohammed Baba urged them to follow safety instructions and take part in the NYSC's skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programme.
The request comes as difficulties with electricity supply continue to be reported in several regions of Nigeria. Punch reports in particular that the Fanisau camp is directly affected by the lack of connection to the local distribution network.
