Spain’s National Police are checking whether emergency procedures and evacuation times were followed after striker Jesús de Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest during the match between Tenerife and Andorra. The Homicide Unit is examining the equipment available on the pitch and in the ambulance, the timing of the transfer and the administration of oxygen, according to police sources cited by Spanish newspaper El País.
The player remained on the pitch for just over six minutes before being placed on a stretcher and taken to the ambulance. Investigators are also seeking to understand why the emergency vehicle did not enter the playing area. The security coordinator and both clubs must submit their reports to LaLiga, while police will send their findings to the court handling the case.
The court in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has received the preliminary autopsy report, the contents of which remain confidential. No breach of medical protocol has been established at this stage, and the proceedings do not assign criminal responsibility to goalkeeper Jesús Owono. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday in Navahermosa, in Toledo province, and a public tribute is due to take place on Saturday at 6pm at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium.
The checks follow the death of Jesús de Miguel after a collision during a match, announced on 3 November. They follow on from the Spanish police investigation into his death, reported on 4 November 2026.
