Houthi missile intercepted over Riyadh

The military coalition led by Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday 8 November that it had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis of Yemen towards Riyadh, according to La Nouvelle Tribune. Detonations were heard in the Saudi capital after an early alert was triggered.

Buildings were hit, but the Saudi authorities attributed the damage to debris from the interception. These launches follow Saturday's announcement of the interception of two ballistic missiles directed at the Mecca and Medina regions, according to La Nouvelle Tribune.

The Houthis had already fired a first missile towards Riyadh on 4 November 2017, a device that had been intercepted near King Khalid International Airport, La Nouvelle Tribune recalls. The Saudi capital has been targeted by the Yemeni movement for several years.
