Uganda’s COSASE parliamentary committee has summoned the Uganda Football Federation to explain how it used 73 billion shillings received from the state. Other sports federations are also involved after partial accounts, while the National Council of Sports says it is preparing to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, according to Nile Post.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and several other sports federations have been summoned by the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) to answer questions about shortcomings identified in their accounts concerning public funds. The summonses followed Friday’s hearing of National Council of Sports (NCS) officials, according to Nile Post.
NCS officials said FUFA and other federations had provided only partial accounts of the funds they received, with discrepancies identified in an internal audit. The netball and boxing federations and the national paralympic federation are also among the bodies concerned. FUFA received 14 billion Ugandan shillings in the 2023-2024 financial year and 19 billion in the following financial year.
The NCS confirmed before MPs that an investigation by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) into the management of funds paid to FUFA was under way. The IGG asked the council to provide details of the public sums granted to the federation over the past ten years.
At the same hearing, NCS officials said Uganda was ready to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Kenya and Tanzania. They said study visits were being conducted to examine stadium maintenance in other countries.
