Four pedestrians died in Kigoloba, in Uganda’s Kassanda District, after a Toyota Noah left the road following a tyre blowout. The driver, who was reportedly travelling at high speed, fled and remained wanted, according to police in the Wamala region.

Four pedestrians were killed in an accident on the Mityana-Mubende road in Kassanda District after a Toyota Noah’s tyre burst, causing it to leave the road and hit them. The vehicle was travelling from Mityana towards Mubende when it overturned at about 9pm on 29 October in Kigoloba village, according to SSP Lameck Kigozi, spokesperson for the Wamala regional police.

The victims were identified as Patrick Kalyesubula, Moses, Paul Tumuhiirwe and a fourth man whose identity had not yet been established. Police provisionally attributed the accident to the burst tyre combined with excessive speed and continued their investigation after gathering testimony at the scene.

The driver fled after the collision and remained wanted. The bodies were taken to Kiganda IV Health Centre for examination, while the wreckage was towed and placed under seal at Kiganda police station by investigators led at the scene by Kassanda District traffic officer ASP Moses Kasadha.

The accident follows the death of one person and serious injuries to two others in an accident in Uganda, reported on 18 October.
